Location: Oakland, CA (Emeryville Office)
Work Arrangement: Primarily onsite, generally 5 days per week. Some hybrid flexibility may be available once fully trained and established.
Experience: 1+ year as a practicing attorney
CA Bar: Required

• Base Salary: $120,000-$250,000, depending on experience, tenure, litigation background, and trial exposure

About the Opportunity:

Our client is a nationally recognized plaintiffs' law firm focused exclusively on asbestos / mesothelioma litigation. The firm has more than 70 attorneys, handles 2,000+ cases nationwide, and provides comprehensive training for attorneys transitioning into this specialized practice.

Prior asbestos or mesothelioma experience is not required. Attorneys coming from plaintiff-side personal injury, product liability, medical-related litigation, or other complex litigation backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Defense attorneys may also be considered, subject to conflicts.

The firm hires experienced attorneys from outside the firm at the Associate level. Partnership is achieved through internal promotion rather than external lateral hiring. Associates receive base salary plus bonus and may participate in trials as second chair, while Partners serve as first-chair trial counsel and are eligible for commission on case settlements.

What You'll Do:

• Manage an active caseload, typically 15-18 cases
• Handle written discovery and substantive motion practice
• Take and defend depositions
• Work directly with clients and families throughout their cases
• Participate in trials as second chair
• Collaborate with experienced trial attorneys on litigation strategy
• Travel approximately 8 times per month, primarily 1-2 night trips, with some local and occasional national travel

Qualifications:

• J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
• Active California Bar admission
• 1+ year of litigation experience
• Plaintiff-side PI, product liability, medical-related litigation, or other complex litigation experience preferred
• Strong research, writing, advocacy, and case-management skills
• Ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced litigation environment
• Strong client communication skills, professionalism, and empathy
