Senior Title Insurance Attorney Underwriter – Mid-Atlantic Region (Remote)

Our East Coast–based client is a highly respected and established leader in the Title Insurance industry. They are seeking a Senior Title Insurance Attorney Underwriter to support the Mid-Atlantic region, focusing on developing and expanding an established company’s presence in a newer territory.

This is a remote-friendly role, ideally suited for candidates based in the Mid-Atlantic region, including Washington, D.C., Northern Virginia, and Maryland suburbs, to support closer collaboration with agents and internal teams. The role is perfect for an attorney underwriter who is a winning teammate, thrives on collaboration, and is energized by opportunities to grow a territory. Core Responsibilities:
  • Provide legal and underwriting guidance to attorney agents and internal teams on residential and commercial real estate matters across the Mid-Atlantic region.
  • Research, analyze, and resolve complex title issues, including multi-unit and multi-site projects.
  • Make sound risk assessment decisions to support policy issuance while managing company exposure.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to underwriting inquiries.
  • Evaluate insurability and advise on coverage, endorsements, and underwriting exceptions.
  • Draft practice notes, legal communications, and educational materials.
  • Lead seminars and training for attorneys, agents, and real estate professionals.
  • Monitor legal developments in Mid-Atlantic real property and title insurance law.
  • Support agent recruitment, relationship building, and territory growth initiatives.
  • Collaborate with leadership on compliance, underwriting standards, and strategic planning.
  • Mentor Title Counsel and perform Title Counsel duties as needed.
Education & Experience Requirements:
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in a Mid-Atlantic state (MD, VA, or DC preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in real estate law and/or title insurance underwriting.
  • Experience handling both commercial and residential transactions.
  • Prior title insurance underwriting experience in the Mid-Atlantic market is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to work as a collaborative, high-performing team member.
  • Experience with bankruptcy, estate settlement, or litigation matters is a plus.
