Head of HR

Location: Richmond, VA (Onsite) Compensation: $250K–$350K+ Relocation Support Available

Position Summary

A multi?location professional?services organization is seeking a Head of HR to lead its global people function across U.S. and international offices. This executive will set HR strategy, oversee day?to?day operations, and ensure consistent, high?quality support for a fast?paced, client?service?driven environment.

The Head of HR will own the full employee lifecycle — talent acquisition, onboarding, performance management, compensation and benefits, employee relations, and offboarding — while ensuring compliance with employment, labor, and benefits regulations across multiple jurisdictions. The ideal candidate is a decisive, autonomous HR leader with exceptional communication skills, strong executive presence, and the ability to deliver solutions efficiently without requiring heavy oversight from senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities

HR Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive HR strategy aligned with organizational goals.

  • Lead and mentor HR team members across domestic and international offices.

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to senior leadership on workforce planning, organizational structure, and talent?related risk.

  • Manage the HR budget and oversee vendor relationships.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Oversee compensation frameworks, salary bands, and annual review cycles.

  • Manage benefits programs, vendor relationships, and renewal processes.

  • Ensure compliance with fiduciary and regulatory requirements for retirement and savings plans.

Talent Acquisition, Onboarding & Offboarding

  • Build a scalable recruitment strategy to support organizational growth.

  • Oversee onboarding programs to ensure a consistent, high?quality new?hire experience.

  • Manage offboarding processes, exit interviews, and documentation.

Performance Management

  • Lead the performance?review cycle, including systems, timelines, and calibration.

  • Guide leaders through performance improvement processes and sensitive personnel matters.

  • Ensure documentation and follow?through on performance issues.

Leave, Disability & Occupational Health

  • Oversee U.S. disability programs, workers’ compensation, and related state?specific requirements.

  • Coordinate statutory leave obligations internationally.

  • Manage accommodations, return?to?work processes, and related compliance.

Employee Relations & Investigations

  • Serve as the escalation point for employee?relations matters and workplace conflict.

  • Oversee investigations involving misconduct, grievances, or policy violations.

  • Manage restructurings, reductions in force, and other sensitive organizational changes.

Policy & HR Documentation

  • Maintain and modernize HR policies, handbooks, and templates across jurisdictions.

  • Ensure accurate and compliant documentation of employee records.

  • Develop and update workplace policies and codes of conduct.

Compliance & Regulatory Oversight

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and international employment regulations.

  • Monitor regulatory changes and adjust organizational practices accordingly.

  • Partner with legal resources on matters involving employment?law risk.

Professional Development & Role?Specific Requirements

  • Support professional?development programs and advancement processes.

  • Coordinate training initiatives and integration programs for new hires.

  • Partner with department leaders on career progression and workforce planning.

International HR Oversight

  • Provide strategic direction for HR operations outside the U.S.

  • Coordinate with external advisors on statutory obligations, mobility programs, and cross?border employment matters.

  • Ensure consistency and compliance across international offices.

HR Systems, Data & Analytics

  • Oversee HRIS platforms and ensure data accuracy.

  • Deliver workforce analytics to leadership, including headcount, turnover, and compensation insights.

  • Maintain controls for hiring, promotions, compensation changes, and employee?file governance.

Qualifications

  • 10–15+ years of progressive HR leadership experience in professional?services, corporate, or multi?office environments.

  • Experience overseeing HR across multiple states; international exposure strongly preferred.

  • Deep knowledge of U.S. employment law, benefits administration, and performance management.

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or senior HR certification preferred.

  • Demonstrated success advising senior leaders and managing sensitive personnel matters.

  • Strong executive presence, communication skills, and ability to operate independently.
