We are searching for an Engineering Manager - Mechanical and Thermal Design.  This position is within the Engineering Hardware Product Development Team  and is responsible for the development of of the companies integrated battery energy storage systems products.
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter that can work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team. The candidate should thrive in a fast paced, constantly changing environment while the industry and company go through substantial growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall leadership and administrative management for personnel which includes defining roles and responsibilities, conducting performance appraisals, participating in salary planning, promoting professional growth through timely performance feedback, coaching, and counseling, among other leadership responsibilities
  • Develop and manage resources including full time employees and contractors
  • Provide leadership with high integrity and oversight of processes protecting intellectual property, export controlled and strategic technology
  • Build the technical abilities of the teams, including support developing a pipeline of controlled title holders. Provide leadership, guidance, coaching, and technical direction to assigned personnel
  • Provide support and technical system expertise to the rest of the development organization on topics related to our HW solutions and related sub-systems and components
  • Provide oversight and guidance on meeting standards requirements
  • Work towards continuous process improvements, especially with respect to achieving product functional requirement goals and process effectiveness
  • Define design issues and risks to the product team and support driving solution and implementation
  • Drive root cause analyses for solving container/enclosure design issues
  • Evaluate products based on specifications and design standards

 

  • Work independently with vendors to understand root cause of failures, propose design or component changes, and implement and validate design changes
  • Support cost reduction efforts, and identify cost take out to minimize waste
  • Collaborate with the larger team to optimize requirement and needs
  • Support individuals in their career development plan
  • Collaborate in a team environment and/or take charge of opportunities to develop optimal solutions.

 

Minimum Experience and Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required, graduate degree preferred
  • 10+ years of product development and systems engineering, preferably in the energy storage industry
  • 5+ experience leading engineering design team
  • Ability to provide guidance and feedback to help others strengthen specific knowledge / skill areas needed to accomplish a task or solve a problem
  • Strong understanding of system design for assemblies or installations
  • Excellent written and verbal English and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with global team from different backgrounds and on different time zones
  • Maintain positive working relationships with peers, subordinates, vendors, shop and office in a fast-paced environment
  • A dedication and commitment to results in a dynamic and fast developing environment
  • Strong understanding of good documentation practices
  • Knowledge of energy storage certifications and compliances
  • Familiarity with NEMA and IP enclosure design and testing
  • Flexible and willing to adapt and learn
  • Strong technical communication skills
  • Team player attitude
  • Willing to travel 20% of the time
