Role Details:
  • Reports to: CTO
  • Location: Remote (ET/CT time zones)
  • Work Style: Hands-on technical leadership with active engineering contribution
About the Opportunity: Our client is a fast-growing, venture-backed data infrastructure company operating at the intersection of real estate technology and modern cloud data systems. The company builds products that enable enterprise customers to unify, sync, and operationalize highly fragmented data across complex software ecosystems. Their platform powers large-scale data connectivity and transformation for enterprise clients who expect reliability, security, and scalability at the highest level. This is a rare opportunity to step into a hands-on engineering leadership role where you will own both the technical direction and people leadership for a core platform product. You will report directly to the CTO and play a key role in shaping architecture, security posture, and enterprise readiness as the company continues to scale its enterprise customer base.

About the Role: We are seeking a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead the technical direction, reliability, and security posture of a core data platform product. This is a hybrid leadership role combining engineering management plus deep technical ownership. You will manage and grow a small engineering team while remaining actively involved in system design, architecture decisions, and implementation of enterprise-grade data infrastructure. You will also serve as the technical owner for enterprise readiness initiatives, including security compliance (SOC 2), customer security diligence, and infrastructure hardening required to support large enterprise customers.

Technical Leadership & Team Management:
  • Provide technical leadership for a core platform team, owning both people management and system architecture
  • Lead technical design reviews and set architectural standards for scalability, reliability, and maintainability
  • Review pull requests and provide high-quality technical feedback that balances velocity and engineering excellence
  • Mentor engineers and help build a high-performing, execution-focused team
Platform, Infrastructure & Data Systems:
  • Design and implement enterprise-grade distributed systems that are reliable, observable, and scalable
  • Define infrastructure best practices across cloud environments
  • Apply hands-on expertise in ELT/data pipeline architecture, including connectors, sync engines, and warehouse integrations
  • Operate comfortably in modern cloud data environments (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, OneLake)
Security, Compliance & Enterprise Readiness:
  • Own and continuously improve SOC 2 compliance and broader enterprise security posture
  • Support security audits, penetration testing, and customer security reviews
  • Partner with go-to-market teams to respond to enterprise security questionnaires and enable deal progression
Engineering Excellence:
  • Write and maintain clear, durable technical documentation for internal and external stakeholders
  • Drive engineering best practices across reliability, observability, and system design
What We’re Looking For:
  • Proven experience designing and implementing enterprise-grade systems
  • Hands-on experience building an ELT system (not just using one)
  • Prior experience leading engineers, both as a people manager and technical authority
  • Working knowledge of SOC 2 and enterprise security/compliance practices (e.g., MDM, security reviews, audits)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to explain complex systems clearly
  • Comfort operating in modern cloud data infrastructure environments
Ideal Background (Strong Signals):
Experience at data infrastructure companies (e.g., ELT/ETL platforms such as Fivetran, Airbyte, or similar environments)
  • Startup experience building systems that scale into enterprise customers
  • Exposure to fast-moving product environments where they contributed both as an engineer and technical leader
Less Ideal Fit:
  • Spent the majority of the last 8–10 years in large enterprise-only environments without startup exposure
  • Primarily operated in purely managerial roles without recent hands-on technical involvement
