Our client, a publicly traded travel company, is looking for an Accounts Payable Manager to lead its AP function. The role is hybrid out of their Midtown Manhattan office - three days in the office, two remote.
You'll report to the Controller, and own an established, automated AP operation with room to build on it. This role is a good fit for an AP leader who wants to put structure behind a working function: setting KPIs, tightening controls and vendor master governance, and helping shape an AP shared services model as more of the company's accounting centralizes. It suits an AP supervisor or assistant manager ready for a first full-ownership role, or an experienced manager looking for a bigger platform.
Scope
- About 1,500–2,000 invoices a month (around 20,000 a year) across two primary entities, with more expected as accounting centralizes
- Multi-currency invoices from a global vendor base
- Team of five AP professionals
- Invoice processing runs on an AI/OCR-enabled platform with automated approval workflows
What you'll do
- Lead, coach and develop a team of five, setting clear roles, expectations and service levels
- Own end-to-end AP: invoice intake, processing, approvals, vendor master and issue resolution
- Run weekly payment runs and oversee corporate cards and 1099 reporting
- Manage AP's part of month-end close, including invoice processing and accruals
- Build and track AP KPIs, such as cycle time, exception rates and close performance, working with the Controller and the AP platform team on reporting
- Own vendor master governance: new vendor setup, changes, documentation, segregation of duties and data integrity
- Find ways to cut manual work, strengthen controls and improve the experience for internal users and vendors
- Write and maintain AP policies, SOPs and training materials
- Help design the AP shared services model as the land company accounting moves under the Controller
What we're looking for
- Bachelor's in Accounting, Finance or a related field preferred
- 8+ years of progressive AP or finance operations experience, including 2+ years managing people
- Experience leading AP teams in a high-volume, multi-entity environment
- A track record of process improvement, automation or building out metrics and controls
- Strong understanding of AP controls, vendor master governance, payment processes and month-end close
- Experience with an ERP and AP automation tools; Rillion or similar is a plus
- Advanced Excel skills
- Multi-currency, public company or SOX experience is a plus
Compensation: Up to $120K base plus a 10% bonus, with travel and trip perks
Location: Midtown Manhattan (hybrid, 3 days on-site, 2 remote)
