Our client, well-established nonprofit just south of Boston serving low- and moderate-income families is hiring an Accounting Manager to lead its general ledger close, grant accounting and financial reporting. This is a high-visibility role reporting directly to the CFO, with real ownership over the accounting function and a direct line to the impact your work supports — workforce development, early childhood education, housing, energy assistance, and food programs that reach tens of thousands of residents each year.
What you'll own
- Managing the general ledger and leading the month-end close
- Overseeing AP, AR, and grant/project accounting, with hands-on support to the fiscal team
- Running the payroll cost-allocation process and ensuring costs are allocated correctly across contracts, accounts, and budgets
- Partnering with program managers and the CFO on monthly budget vs. actual reporting, cost control, and contract compliance
- Assisting with annual budgets, funding-source budgets, and grant/contract applications, renewals, and amendments
- Preparing audit schedules and serving as a key contact for external auditors
- Supporting Finance Committee materials and agency-wide reporting
- Maintaining and improving fiscal policies, procedures, and accounting systems
What we're looking for
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally with nonprofit accounting but not required
- Working knowledge of GAAP, grants management, and federal/state contract compliance and reporting preferred
- Strong budgeting and cost-control fundamentals
- Highly analytical, detail-oriented, and organized, with the ability to juggle multiple time-sensitive priorities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to translate financial data into clear, actionable reporting
- Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office; experience with nonprofit/fund accounting software a plus
- Genuine commitment to serving people from a wide range of economic backgrounds
