Supplier Quality Engineer - supporting a growing and highly innovative manufacturer of robotic devices
North of Boston location


The Supplier Quality Engineer is the quality interface between our Client and its supply base and will be responsible for qualification, monitoring, analyzing defect trends, on-site audits, and continuous improvement of suppliers. This position reports to the Global Supplier Quality Manager and is an individual contributor position with high visibility and critical path deliverables.

Responsibilities and Deliverables:
• Participate in selection and qualification of suppliers • Conduct supplier audits, document findings, and continually monitor improvement and mitigation plans
• Assess process capabilities at suppliers for Critical to Quality features in enigneering drawings
• Help generate and analyze supplier quality metrics such as DPPM and identifying trends
• Train suppliers on quality expectations; guide suppliers on root cause analysis
• Establish FAI requirements and enforce AQL sampling plans with suppliers
• Communicate with customers as needed on critical supplier-related issues and corrective actions
• Establish mindset of “zero defect” with suppliers
• Participate in MRB as required from time to time Skills Required:
• Basic understanding of Mechanical (GD&T) & Electrical drawings
• Competence in various Quality Tools, such as 8-D, 5-why, fishbone, and Kepner-Tregoe
• Knowledge of statistical process control and SPC tools & process capability measures like Cp & Cpk
• Understanding of LEAN principles and 5S
• Familiarity with Design for Manufacturability, Serviceability, and Cost Reduction practices
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite of Products, especially Excel, Word, and Power point
• Skilled at establishing and maintaining effective relations between company and individual suppliers to obtain desired level of cooperation and collaboration
• Ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects and issues with minimal upper management supervision
• Being able to adjust with short notice in a fast-paced environment with constantly changing priorities
• In possession of excellent verbal and written communications skills

Education/Experience:

  • BA/BS degree in Mechanical engineering, or related sciences
  • 5+ years of experience as a Mechanical, Quality, Reliability, Manufacturing Engineer, or equivalent position • Semiconductor industry experience is a plus
  • Proven leadership experience coordinating cross-functional team within company and/or supplier representative
  • Direct involvement in supplier quality or supplier management is a plus • Having worked under ISO 9001 or similar Quality Management System environment
  • Experience in internal audits and/or supplier audits
  • Minitab or other statistical software experience will be an advantage
  • Willingness and ability to travel within and outside the country (25-50%)
