Project Engineer - Energy Storage

Position Summary

The Project Engineer is responsible for supporting the technical needs of multiple projects to deliver energy storage systems to customer sites.  The Project Engineer also supports systems engineering in development of new products and design features, as required.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for detailed electrical design of energy storage electrical systems
  • Specification of electrical equipment for use in energy storage systems, including high-, medium-, and low voltage transformers, inverter systems, battery systems, etc.
  • Vendor oversight – technical oversight of battery, power conversation equipment, and other vendors for assigned projects
  • Understand relevant safety and code compliance requirements and ensure adherence
  • Track construction progress at project sites and assist with commissioning, customer interfaces, establishing networking, and additional tasks associated with bringing sites online.
  • Review contracts, proposals, and service agreements to ensure compliance with the scope of work
  • Interface and provide support to internal organizations including the Engineering staff, Field Services, and Information Technology
  • Interface and provide support to external parties including Off-Takers/ISO/TSO support staff, OEM support staff, and customers
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Systems Engineering

Job Dimensions (skills, knowledge & abilities)

  • AC and DC systems design Medium and Low voltage distribution and protection systems
  • Analog electronics (e.g., highly accurate power measurements)
  • Familiarity with National Electrical Code (NEC) and other relevant regulations
  • Experience with battery and power management strongly desired
  • Understanding of communications diagrams and computer networking desired
  • Working knowledge of industrial communication protocols, and monitor and control systems
  • Background with substation communication equipment and industrial protocols (MODBUS, DNP, ICCP, and OPC) is required
  • Design tools such as AutoCAD is desired

Qualifications (Education & Work Experience)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, or Systems Engineering, or combination of education and relevant experience
  • 2+ years of experience in power systems - high power (100 kW and above) inverters and DC systems
  • Experience in renewable industry (solar, wind, storage) preferred
  • Ability to work as a project engineering lead on a development team
  • Agile, able to handle rapidly changing requirements
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal/written)
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Windows system administration
  • Ability to be self-motivated and perform duties in a collaborative working environment
  •  Capable of executing multiple projects and objectives
