Electrical Engineer II

Meeting  real world challenges in border protection , customs, law enforcement and emergency services  by providing  highly sophisticated new product development  and solutions, this rapidly growing radiation detection company is seeking to hire an Electrical Engineer II.  This position is located in Middlesex County, MA
The Electrical Engineer will join an expanding hardware team and will contribute to all aspects of the electrical & electronics design, development and testing of both new and existing products through full life cycle, as the role will be instructed by senior electrical engineers. The Electrical Engineer will work collaboratively with other engineers and colleagues both in the US and UK to ensure product design and manufacturability meet client needs.
 Key Requirements:
• Must be US citizen or green card holder per government contract requirements. Knowledge
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience
• 4+ years’ hands-on electrical engineering experience designing, developing and testing both new and existing technology products.
• Knowledge of electrical design tools and design for EMC.
• Design & produce electrical solutions that meet wide ranging environmental requirements, e.g. Temperature, Vibration, shock, Ingress protection, EMC, etc.
• Sound knowledge of current manufacturing techniques.
• Sound knowledge of component selection methodologies for product manufacture and sustainment.
• Demonstration of compliance through design analysis and risk-based testing.
• Sound knowledge of electrical design tolerance & practices
• Knowledge of documentation control procures and engineering change management.
 • Knowledge of BOM construction
• Good knowledge of structured problem-solving tools and methodologies.
• Analogue (desirable) and digital design experience (essential).
• Microcontroller system design (MSP, DSP etc.).
• Knowledge and experience with a variety of communications protocols (PoE, RS485, SPI, LVDS, USB)
• The ability to fault find within electrical systems down to component level.
 • 10% travel expected including some travel to customer sites both in the US, and abroad.
 Responsibilities
• Work with the team as design contributor for electrical/electronics systems on products and production support activities.
• Follow the electrical design process for delegated delivery projects and products.
• Ensure that our process is fit for purpose and meets standard design guidelines and policy.
• Participate in peer design reviews to ensure best design practices are followed by the wider engineering team.
• Work collaboratively with mechanical engineering, software engineering, Physics and Sales to ensure new product designs will function as per customer requirements.
• Work collaboratively to develop and maintain lean electrical engineering process.
• Provide active support and participation in legacy sustainment projects and engineering change processes.
• Participate in the change process for Electrical Engineering Change processes.
• Performs 2nd and 3rd line troubleshooting and root cause analysis of critical electronic sub-systems.
• Communicate and maintain trust relationships with relevant stakeholders.
Skills
• Experience using CAD packages (Altium preferred)
• Able to work under own initiative & manage own time.
• Delivering results to agreed deadlines.
• Working constructively as part of a multi-project functional team as well as independently.
• Proven confidence and resilience to deal with challenges from stakeholders across the business.
• Ability to multi-task, be detail orientated and possess strong analytical skills.
• Excellent time management and prioritisation skills with ability to adapt to changing priorities.
• Exercises good judgement; knows when to flag issues and when to deal with independently.
• Collaborative and inclusive team member.
• Strong communication skills at all levels, both verbal and written and excellent presentation skills.
• Deep understanding of Electrical design requirements and how they influence mechanical design.
• Some understanding of Project/Task management.
• Some experience of using Design Failure Mode and Analysis.
• Some experience in the design and test of EMC and IP compliant equipment.
